Pura Vida. I have just celebrated one month of living in beautiful Costa Rica.

February 25th was an extremely long day, up at 4 am and off to the airport to find that our flight was delayed for mechanical reasons. I was blessed having Rebecca, Ryan and Graydon along providing love and support and helping herd three cats, luggage and belongings. We finally arrived safely in Liberia, took our waiting shuttle home and unloaded the cats, the luggage and my four totes of household goods. My friends Heather and Henry were there to welcome us and we headed a short walk down the road to a restaurant to celebrate with dinner.

With smiling faces we got to work setting up housekeeping. We purchased food and essentials and for the next two weeks enjoyed the hospitality that Costa Rica has to offer. We drove her back roads, visited her parks and gazed with wonder at her magnificent landscapes. The two weeks ended far too quickly and it was time to say goodbye to my family.

I have spent the last two weeks getting more settled and getting acquainted with my new area. One day this past week, I went to the dentist, a plant nursery nearby then to Tilarán and into four different stores all by myself LOL. Saturday, I paid my electric and water bills. Sure you say, no big deal but, I live in an area that is not extremely touristy and the majority of locals do not speak English. They are more than helpful when you do your best trying to converse and thanks to Google Translate, we get by. I have been into the local hardware store so many times now that they greet me with “hola Phil” as I enter. I am five days into Spanish lessons on Duolingo, a language learning app.

I still have much to do. I need to get some furniture, I need to buy more drapes but I’m happy and enjoying life. I’m spending lots of time working in the garden and soaking up the sunshine.
Regrets? None!
