About Me

Planning a new home in Costa Rica

Nemophilist (noun) “One who is fond of forests or forest scenery; a haunter of the woods”.

I am a bleeding-heart Liberal, tree-hugging, naturalist who loves aviation. I abhor anything that endangers wildlife, the environment and the general well-being of the planet but I do support science and a need for science based solutions to our problems.

I am a proponent of reducing our consumption of meat, firstly for my concerns for the welfare of the animal, but also for the fact that if we do not stop destroying the world to support our never ending need for meat, we will no longer have a planet that can sustain life.

Born in Montreal and raised in southwestern Ontario, I retired a few years ago and did what every person who loves nature dreams of, I built myself a little house in the woods near Canada’s Algonquin Park. Nature still beckons but, the time has come to visit her somewhere warmer.

Trips to Costa Rica, thousands of kilometres driven and hundreds walked allowed me to drink deeply of the culture and biodiversity of the country. Visits to remote villages, backroads and beaches led to my falling in love with all that says Pura Vida to me.

Four years ago I knew I wanted to live out my live in Costa Rica but, I wasn’t sure how I could do it alone. Covid-19 has made me understand that life is short and being alone is okay.

I will use this journal to document my move and my adventures along my way. I do not intend to create a roadmap for others to follow but rather a simple storytelling of the rest of my journey.

I would be delighted to have you share my journey with me.

Phil
