This has been a very special morning in the cloud forest. The sights, sounds and smells of pure magic fill my senses. It’s not 8:30 yet and I have recorded 23 species in the yard.
My day started with literally hundreds of birds in the trees and sky around me. Orange-chinned parakeets, Red-lored parrots, White-fronted parrots, White-throated magpie jays, Great-tailed Grackles, Gray Chachalacas, Rufous-tailed Hummingbirds and many others. I’ve used the phrase before but it is a great joy to drink deeply of what Costa Rica offers.

I walked to the back of my property and I was standing on a small hill when a single Red-lored Parrot flew in and landed on a branch just above my head. I looked up slowly, careful not scare It off, and actually tried to take a couple of cell phone selfies with it. I slowly backed off, turned and managed to take some of the most amazing shots of this beautiful bird.
I wandered around the property and realized that for the first time in weeks the mountains and the volcanoes were completely clear.
I am not sure that I could ever ask for more but, I know that more will nevertheless be offered in the future by an ever changing vista.
I am blessed.
